Sustainability has been a determining factor for individuals because of various reasons for decades, be it climate change, environmental pollution, etc. It is also a pressing matter within the clothing and textile industry sector when it comes to our future. Clothing for centuries has been a need for us and is now part of everyday life either in the form of fashion, seasonal wear, trends, etc. Since the past few decades, the clothing and textile industry has been the second most environmental polluter in the world. Current practices when it comes to the inclusion of sustainability into the curriculum is minimal. For a more sustainable future, it is important that the current generation of students learn and know more about it. Therefore, the analysis carried out was based on the inclusion of sustainability within the curriculum within clothing and textile as part of an engineering curriculum. “Sustainability” – a new term/ concept was included within the curriculum at the Advanced Diploma qualification stage, a course qualification equivalent to B Tech. Qualitative research was carried out to understand students’ knowledge and understanding of the concept. It is vital to create course content and let the students know more about sustainability and its possible implications by including it in the curriculum. This paper highlights the inclusion of sustainability within the Advanced Diploma qualification of the clothing and textile curriculum. The paper reflects the need for curriculum development by assimilating sustainable elements in the above-mentioned qualification, so that upcoming professionals can embody sustainability in order to create an environmentally friendly and sustainable society to live in.
